Glasgow's Own Snow Patrol To Headline T in the Park

Today was the big day for music fans in Scotland and festival-goers across the nation, the announcement of this year's T in the Park line up.  With Glastonbury taking a year off, T in the Park is one of this year's most highly anticipated festivals in the UK.  In true fashion, the official T in the Park website crashed at 11am this morning when the line up was expected to be posted as people eagerly awaited to hear who was playing at the event of the year, but things were up and running shortly and the festival's Twitter feed kept us posted with the main headliner's being announced.

As in previous year's, T in the Park have a number of Scottish acts on the bill such as Emeli SandĂ©, Calvin Harris, Amy MacDonald and Twin Atlantic who were welcomed last year after they had released their latest album 'Free'.  The big excitement however is that this year, Glasgow based band Snow Patrol are set to headline the main stage on the Friday night... for the 5th time in 9 years.  Snow Patrol first appeared at T on the NME stage back in 2003 followed by a return in 2004 to the King Tut's Wah Wah Tent.  Their first main stage appearance came in 2007 where they were top of the bill and in 2009, they were headlining again.

There appears to be mixed opinions about their return this year since they are not as popular as they were back when the played in 2009, and compared to the past two years where the likes of Coldplay, Muse and BeyoncĂ© were performing on the main stage, have the organisers made the right decision in selecting them?  Have Snow Patrol lost their spark after 18 years or are the band simply morphing into a new style? That's up to you to decide, but there's no denying that the band have talent and still have a strong following as they sold out two shows at the SECC in January.

Personally, I feel that it's great that Snow Patrol are a part of the line up again and that the organisers of the festival are continuing to support Scottish bands and I have no doubt that people will enjoy hearing them play their most popular songs live such as Chasing Cars and Run whether they have engaged with the band's recent albums or not and will continue to chant that well known phrase, 'ONE MORE TUNE!'

Check out the video below to see them performing Take Back The City at T in the Park in 2009:

Many other acts are set to appear across the weekend for everyone's taste from David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and The Wanted to Enter Shikari, Mastodon and the festival favourite - Florence & The Machine.  You can check out the line up so far in the image below:
